c. 1320 BCE — Ancient Egypt

NSFW began when an Egyptian textile worker presented the Pharaoh with a linen garment considered far too inappropriate for ceremonial use. In modern translation, the cloth was deemed "not safe for wear". This is considered by historians to be the very first offensive garment in recorded history.

c. 1348 — Medieval Europe

After centuries of quiet growth, NSFW encountered its first major controversy when they unveiled the now-infamous “ASK ME ABOUT MY PLAGUE” tunic. While Europe’s population fell by roughly a third, NSFW sales tripled.

1776 — NSFW Comes to America

A new nation. A new market. As the colonies fought for independence, NSFW crossed the Atlantic with one mission: bring questionable graphic tees to the New World. And the rest, as they say, is history.

"Not Safe for Wear!" actually started in 2022 with a much simpler idea: make shirts that are genuinely funny. What started as a small online store experimenting with making ridiculous graphic tees somehow turned into tens of thousands of shirts being sent out into the world with a following of 200k+ amazing people across social media.

We still operate under the same basic philosophy: If it makes us laugh, it probably belongs on a shirt.
